Hotel Métropole Cover
	Click to Enlarge	Description: Local Hanoi cover addressed to Monsieur Marinetti at the Hotel Métropole. Postmarked December 26, 1945 and January 2, 1946.1 The cover contains five different stamps including Michel #24 (perf.12), #21 (perf. 12), #19 (perf. 12), #19a (perf. 12) and #25 (perf. 12). The variety of the stamps and the fact that the recipient never opened the letter suggest that this cover was philatelically inspired. On this particular cover, the typed address is "tied" by a stamp partially covering it (and the stamps themselves are tied to the cover), suggesting that the address was not added at a later date as is sometimes the case with Viet Minh covers. Cancels on this cover are from two different dates (there are no backstamps). Three cancels, all of them the same, tie the stamps to the cover. These read "HANOI CHANH-THAU-CUC / BUU-TIN / 26-12-45". Another cancel, identical save the date, appears below the stamps. It is dated January 2, 1946 - one week later. Notes: The cover is signed and dated in pencil on the back: "Wolf 5-7-59 / $3".
