Regular Officers School (French), Dalat

Vietnamese Regular Officers School Insignia

In 1948, the French founded the Vietnamese Regular Officers School in Hue. In 1950, the school was moved to Dalat and until 1954, all commanders and instructors of the school were French officers. After the Geneva Accords, the Vietnamese gradually assumed control of the Academy and changed its name to "Truong Vo Bi Lien Quan" (National Military Academy).

Cover is shown with matching letterhead stationery. Notice French "Poste Aux Armee / T.O.E." postmark meaning "Army Mail / Overseas Theater of Operation," dated 28 January 1954. "S.P. 4787" in the return address means "Sector Postal," which was equivalent to the Vietnamese "K.B.C.". In fact, the French used a 5-digit code while the 4-digit code on the cover is an updated KBC number. Troops who served under the French system continued to use the S.P. abbreviation with the new numbers out of habit.
