Hao Hoa Regional Forces ID

During the Etat du Vietnam period (1950-1954), Viet-Nam had three major religous forces that acted as war lord groups: the Hoa Hao, Binh Xuyen and Cao Dai,located respectively at Long Xuyen,Tay Ninh and Cho Lon.

In 1956, President Diem reorganized the Vietnamese military by disarming these regional forces, then uniting them under the Vietnamese Armed Forces. Groups that resisted unification were defeated during the Hoang Dieu campaign in Rung Sat, lead by Colonel Duong Van Minh.

During this period, General Trinh Minh The of the Cao Dai was assassinated and 2nd Commander Ba Cut of the Hoa Hao was executed, 1st Commander Tran Van Soai of the Hoa Hao surrented to Diem, and Bay Vien of the Binh Xuyen was rescued by French Forces and granted asylum in France.

Shown at right is a pin from the Hoa Hao. Both civilians and military personnel had to wear these pins when they lived inside the region controlled by the Hoa Hao.
