Hai Quan (HQ) Ship to Ship Cover KBC 3328 to KBC 3328 This letter is a scarce example of mail between two South Vietnamese naval vessels. HQ07 was the hull number of the "Dong Da II", a patrol craft. HQ02 was the cutter "Tran Quang Khai". The boxed HQ07 marking is rare. The cover is stamped twice on the front and twice on the reverse with this handstamp. "Quan Thu", written in the upper right portion of the envelope, means "military mail". The letter was sent without postage and was assessed postage due as indicated by the "T" handstamp. The postmark apparently reads "Saigon"; the date portion is illegible. A similar cover between the same correspondents is illustrated in the Congress Book 2000 article "An Introduction to Military Mail of South Viet-Nam" by Joe Cartafalsa. That cover is cancelled 6-11-1974 in Nha Trang. It was also sent without stamps affixed, however no postage due was indicated.
