Biet Doi Vietnamese Special Forces Vietnamese Biet Doi, or Special Forces, (literally "Special Group") were typically assembled and trained for a single, specific mission. According the Joe Cartafalsa's Vietnamese Mail exhibit, this Special Group could contain personnel from any branch of service including police, paramilitary forces or even mountain tribesmen. Missions included intelligence gathering, kidnapping and assassinations. The group was under the control and support of Phong 2, the Army Security Department. Once completed, the unit would be disbanded. This cover was sent from Biet Doi 62, apparently operating out of or around Pleiku when this cover was sent on 25 June, 1970. This cover with enclosed letter was sent through the civilian military system (note the Pleiku postmark instead of the military Quan Buu postmark), thus 6d postage was required. This was double the 3d military rate. It is worth noting that the South Vietnamese triangluar bird stamps are scarce on cover.
